Workshop: Capoeira: A Magical Martial Art
Instructor: Scot McIntosh
Location: Main church in Index, Wa.

An exploration of the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira and the magickal techniques it embodies. Will include an introduction to ritual, music and basic core movements of the art as well as some consideration of the connection between magic and martial arts throughout history.

Suggested Age Group: 13 and over
Fee: $15 for non-church members, $10 for church members

Neo-paganism celebrates the Divine Feminine, but what about the other half? The God can often get short shrift because of previous bad experiences with Big Daddy In The Sky. These powerful archetypes have been a part of the human psyche since Neolithic times, and throughout history have been both worshiped and demonized. However, the Masculine half of the Divine has a rich and varied mythology, providing archetypes that men (and women) can look up to for guidance and inspiration.

Mardi Gras has been celebrated for thousands of years, though not in its present form.  Ancient pagan rites of Spring and fertility have been linked to the present day celebration, though its roots have been hidden from view.  We will take a look at the many myths and symbols of this ‘Carnival’ that have their beginnings in pre-Christian Europe.   So bring your masks and beads, and find out what they really mean!

This Ritual is open to the general public.

KITCHEN STAFF POSITIONS AVAILABLE!

Join our team and have a great time! We’re looking for a few great people who know how to cook, know how to lead, and know how to laugh. Here are the positions we need. 2 Cooks: A good sense of humor and experience in preparing food for large groups is preferred. 3 Volunteer Team Leaders: Previous management experience and a working knowledge of whoopee cushions a big plus! Positions receive a break on registration fees, all the coffee and tea they can drink, and an opportunity to serve the Gods–literally! During the holiday season we are inundated with all things related to food. In this class we learn about and taste the foods of the Gods. Many foods have correspondences with specific deities, moon phases, festivals, and Sabbats. So bring an adventurous appetite as we explore the sacred aspects of many different foods. But be warned - you may never look at your morning bowl of Rice Krispies in quite the same way ever again!

With its roots in the ceremonial magick of the Golden Dawn, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram began as a powerful and effective banishing and cleansing ritual. Today, it can be used not only as a purification, but also as a meditation tool and an excellent skill building practice. Class participants will study the rite in detail and, by the end of the class, will be able to perform the rite themselves.
