The Pagan Path Project

Announcing the Pagan Path Project

by Daniel Webster
Christensen

The description of the church property in Index sounds wonderfully magickal: nestled at the feet of the mist-enshrouded Cascade mountains. Yet, to we web-toed Seattlites, that means something you won’t read in the brochure: mud, and lots of it. During the rainy season, the church property is saturated by the rains that make Western Washington famous. Add a constant stream of two- (and four-) footed church patrons, and the foot traffic can churn the moist backyard into a mud field. For a tradition clad in white robes, this can be a very frustrating and messy situation for everyone involved. Fortunately, there is now a solution: we are pleased to announce the creation of the Pagan Path Project.

We recently scored the opportunity to make a really good purchase of the
paving bricks and retaining wall blocks we needed to complete the Drum
Circle and Fire Pit, as well as the walkway from the main building to the
outdoor circle of standing stones, at below wholesale prices! These
projects have been completely constructed in recent months (see pictures
under Earth Guild) and now we just have to pay for those materials!

And so, ATC is having a church fund raiser to replace the moneys spent that
were not in the budget, so we can pay our budgeted expenses as they come
due. We are creating the opportunity for all of you to make a donation to
this expense and have your name (or whatever) engraved on a paver brick,
the walkway, or retaining wall cap block. The size of each item limits the
amount of lettering that can be etched, but generally, the larger the item
the more etching. You’ve seen this sort of fund raiser before – in the
Pike Place Market, the Redmond Library, and other sites. Within some
limits, you may even choose the location of your brick in the walkway and
circle! The company who etches these items for us is Reflections Custom
Etching, who have been merchanting etched stones and other items at our
festivals for many years. They have also etched some of the other Seattle
area projects mentioned, and are experienced. Etching is filled with a
black material to enhance readability. Once etched, your brick will be
slipped in to the place you choose, if possible.

There are over 1,000 paving bricks just in the circle alone, and we
certainly don’t expect to etch a big percentage of them, but we should be
able to do enough to raise the money needed to cover the cost of materials
for these structures. If we raise a little more than that, it will go
toward re-grading and improving the soil so that the grass can grow again
after all of the traffic, construction, and damage done to it over the last
few years.

Regular lock edge bricks are at present $35.00 each.

Large wall capstones (see Farrar photo) are $60 each.

Small ramp capstones (see McCornak photo) are $45 each

The large 18″x18″ Family Brick Blocks are $155.00 a panel and contain the equivalent of
eight regular sized bricks.

Ordering

Please make checks or money orders payable to the ATC. We also can
take email and phone orders with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard and
Discover) but please do NOT email your card number to us. It is far
safer to call in that information. Please include your name and both
physical and e-mail addresses, as well as what you would like etched on
the stone. If there are any problems, we will contact you via the
information you provide. If you have any questions, please contact the
project coordinator, Daniel Christensen at dwebster78@earthlink.net
